Explore Phuket Like a Pro: My Self-Drive Adventure in Thailand

Renting a car in Phuket was one of the best travel decisions I made! As a solo female traveler, I wanted freedom, safety, and convenience—and HAUP's car rental service delivered all three.

Booking was incredibly easy: all I needed was my passport and international driver's license. I paid online using my credit card (they also accept Visa, MasterCard, JCB, UnionPay, Alipay, WeChat Pay, and Thai QR PromptPay).

The best part? HAUP picked me up right from Phuket Airport and shuttled me to their nearby car park. From there, my journey around Phuket began!

1. Strolling Through Phuket Old Town

Google Maps: Phuket Old Town

Phuket Old Town is a charming place full of colorful Sino-Portuguese buildings, local cafes, and Sunday street markets. I parked easily and spent the morning snapping photos of vibrant street art, sipping iced Thai tea, and picking up unique souvenirs. Renting a car gave me the flexibility to arrive early before the crowds and truly enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.

2. Sunset at Promthep Cape

No trip to Phuket is complete without catching the sunset at Promthep Cape. Driving there with my rental car was a breeze, and I arrived just in time to see the sky turn brilliant shades of orange and pink. It’s one of the best scenic drives in Thailand, with ocean views and palm-lined roads.

3. Local Flavors at Samkong Ice Cream

I discovered Samkong Ice Cream, a famous local spot for traditional Thai-style ice cream with toppings like sweet sticky rice, peanuts, and red beans. It was an easy stop thanks to having my own car. A must-visit for foodies!

4. Chill Time at Holiday Inn Resort, Patong Beach

I booked a night at the Holiday Inn Resort Patong Beach, a beachfront property with pools, comfy beds, and great service. Parking was available, and after days of exploring, I loved relaxing here. Plus, having a car meant I could explore nearby restaurants and nightlife at my own pace.

Patong Beach is Phuket’s most famous beach—and for good reason. With my rental car, I arrived early to find convenient parking and a quiet spot on the sand before the crowds rolled in. I spent the afternoon swimming, sunbathing, and watching parasailers fly across the sky. The beachfront is packed with restaurants, shops, and beach bars, so having a car made it easy to hop in and out whenever I wanted.
